When you think about late night snacks, the last thing that you may think about is the ability to lose weight. You are sitting up watching your favorite TV show or you are typing away at your keyboard and you start to get that urge to head to the kitchen to get yourself something to eat. In the back of your mind, you are thinking that this is the last thing that your diet needs. Another moment of weakness, this will just lead you to needing to spend more time at the gym or waiting longer to lose weight.

This may not be true. If you are getting the urge to grab late night snacks because you are bored or dealing with something emotionally then by all means try the will power route and do not eat. You may win or lose this battle. However, the odds are that you are not really hungry. On the other hand if your dinner was many hours before this time, your body may actually need food. Use the idea that you need to eat small meals every to two to three hours. If your dinner was four hours ago or more then you may want to get a late night snack. If you do it the right way, you will still be able to lose weight.

The key to eating a late night snack to lose weight is to keep it small and healthy. Place two tablespoons of hummus on a plate and a couple of whole wheat pitas or small serving of whole wheat crackers. You will be getting that crunchy texture that you are craving. However, the protein and complex carbohydrates will do wonders to keep your metabolism burning and your body burning calories as you burn the mid night oil. If you are working online to make money, it may be the extra energy that you need to get a couple of extra hours of work in.

Do you remember snack time when you were younger in school? Believe it or not, some of the healthiest snacks that you have eaten may have come from that time period. One of the more popular options for schools are an apple and some peanut butter. Fruits are a great sweet treat that can help with any carving that you have late at night. The peanut butter is the energy that you need to keep going.

Sweets tend to be some of the most popular items that people want when they are up late. With that being said, this late night snack does revisit the idea of apples. An apple a day does not just keep the doctor away but it also helps with weight loss. A small serving of apple sauce and a couple of graham crackers can fill you up and still help you to lose weight.

Bananas are my favorite snack. I can't live without them at the moment. I've also just had bananas for breakfast alone, and I think they help to keep weight off for people who worry about their weight.
