58The last thing that is on your mind every day as you head into the office is the many possible workplace injuries that you may run into. Unfortunately, there are people who find themselves unable to do their normal responsibilities at their job because they have had an accident. This happens more times then most people even realize through out the course of a normal day. This is why worker's comp insurance is such big business. But that is a topic for another article. Now what does this wealth of doom and gloom have to do with you?

You never know when one may occur, but knowing what steps to take afterwards can save you time and money. There are many do's and don'ts when it comes to workplace injuries. Just keep these tips in mind and you will be on your way to being ok.

Tip One
Realize that your employer is more worried about their bottom line then about you and any workplace injuries that may occur. They will want to cover their own end when it comes to insurance and the cost that will have to be paid to take care of you if it comes to that. There have been employers that have down played workplace injuries to the employee just to not have a claim filed against them. Remember, the company's number one concern is themselves.
Tip Two
Report all workplace injuries at the time of occurrence, no matter how small you may think it is. That cut may seem small now, but it could swell up and become infected by tomorrow morning. If you do not file the paperwork about workplace injuries at the time that they are sustained, your employer can claim that you did not get injured at work. This has happened to many an innocent person. You may be lucky enough to take them to court after the fact and win. However, the time and money that would be involved in that type of battle may not be worth it in the end.
Tip Three
Read every piece of paper that is put in front of you to fill out and sign when you have workplace injuries. Many of the forms will have a liability clause that limits what the company can be made to pay for in the end. You never want to limit your ability to get the medical care and possible missed wages paid for if this event happens to you. Workplace injuries are not a joke and you should never have to sign away your rights to get treated for them.
Tip Four
Follow the prescribed course of treatment that the doctor gives you for all workplace injuries. This includes physical and occupational therapy. If you fail to follow any of the doctor's orders, your company may have the right to stop paying your medical bills. This is called being in non compliance and is nothing to joke about.
Tip Five
If you are in doubt of anything or feel like you are being bullied by the company when it comes to workplace injuries, it is time to get a lawyer. They can be that all important buffer between you and the insurance companies. You did not go to school to know all the legal ins and outs of workplace injuries, but they did. It is always a good idea to have someone in your corner fighting for you. Many workplace injuries lawyers will work on your case and will take a percentage of any damages that you receive through their efforts.
