One of the most over looked items that you use every day are your makeup brushes. These tools can make or break the look that you are trying to create with the cosmetics that you are applying. Why is this? Quality makeup brushes that have been properly cared for can apply the color that you want on your face in it's truest form. When you use the right tools, you can also make sure that you do not waste makeup. This means that you can usually apply less product to achieve the same look that you are getting now.
Besides investing in a set of quality makeup brushes, the most important thing that you need to do is to clean makeup brushes. The pigment and oils from your makeup products can build up in the bristles over time. This can lead to changing the color of the makeup that you are applying. Not cleaning makeup brushes can also create germs and bacteria that can transfer to skin. This can lead to break outs.
Step One
Start with quality makeup brushes. To be able to clean makeup brushes and get the best use out of them, you do not want to use the free ones that come with your makeup. Think of these as disposable makeup brushes that you can use when you travel but overall should be avoided. Natural bristles and good handles are signs of quality. There are good deals to be had if you do a little searing for makeup brushes that you like.
Step Two
Fill a small spray bottle with witch hazel. This is one of the favorite products used by makeup artists to do a quick clean up job on their makeup brushes. There are companies out there that sell makeup brush cleaner sprays. This is also a good way to go if you do not have witch hazel on hand.
Step Three
After each use, spray makeup brushes with witch hazel and brush them on tissue paper. Continue to spray and brush that paper until there is no longer makeup coming out on the tissue paper. The reason that tissue paper is the best product to use is that there will not be any fibers coming off the paper to get into your makeup brushes.
Step Four
Once a week, you need to give your makeup brushes a deep cleaning. You can switch this to once a month if you do not wear makeup every day. There are many products on the market to clean makeup brushes with. Your regular face cleanser is one option that will easily remove makeup from your makeup brushes. A great money saving option is baby shampoo. It will remove the makeup and is gentle on the bristles. You will want to lather up each of your makeup brushes and then thoroughly rinse them.
Step Five
Lay your makeup brushes flat and allow them to dry completely before you use them again.
